How to Plant Lavender in a Pot

25
    • 1). Plant lavender in a pot that is only 2 inches larger in diameter than the root ball of the lavender plant. It doesn't matter what material the pot is made of, but it should have drainage holes in the bottom. The pot should also be tall enough to allow for 1 inch of gravel and 3 inches of soil in the bottom, while still keeping the crown of the plant even, or just slightly below, the rim of the pot.

    • 2). Fill the bottom of the pot with gravel to a depth of 1 inch. This helps prevent root rot, which lavender are prone to if their roots remain wet. Add 3 inches of potting soil on top of the gravel.

    • 3). Place the lavender plant in the pot. Pour potting soil around the plant until the plant is secure in the pot and all empty areas are filled with the potting soil.

    • 4). Water the lavender plant and then place it in an area that receives at least eight hours of sunlight. If you are keeping the plant indoors for a while, place it in a sunroom or near a sunny southern window.
