How to Plant a Garden for The Six Senses
- 1). For your sense of sight, you can include the variety of flowers that you find most beautiful. Planting shrubs such as a Butterfly Bush or Rose of Sharon will attract butterflies to your garden to bring even more delight to your sense of sight.
- 2). For your sense of smell, Rosemary, Thyme, and any variety of mint would be good choices. Roses, Hyacinths, and many other flowers can provide enjoyment for both your sense of sight and your sense of smell.
- 3). For your sense of touch you might want to include Lamb's Ear for the softness of its leaves, Coreopsis for its feathery leaves, or a Sedum such as Hen and Chicks for their spiky leaves.
- 4). For your sense of hearing, including plants that attract birds and bees would be a good idea. Bee balm, catnip, Shrimp plants, marigold, and many other flowers can bring in a sufficient amount of buzzing and chirping to satisfy your sense of hearing. Planting sunflowers in your garden will bring in the sight and sound of finches as they enjoy the seeds once you've enjoyed the beauty of the blooms.
- 5). For your sense of taste, plant berries, herbs and vegetables. You can plant a lot of tantalizing vegetables in a small space.
- 6). For your sense of humor, plant a least one unusual looking plant or flower. Plants such as purple carrots, green cauliflower, or Mr. Stripy tomatoes are possibilities for a humorous vegetable. Gourds are easy to grow and come in some humorous shapes. You might want to plant something like a bat plant to bring an element of humor to your garden. A sense of humor is wonderful. Express yourself and have fun growing a garden that pleases six senses.
