Trouble Times For Food Security Out There!
Around the world, a cry for food security, famine and dealth are in progress. Some people even wonder how could this happen before our own eyes. In our mist, there is fear and a degree of uncertainty for what the future holds. Others like me have decided to change our mindset and do something about it. As one politician once said,"our problem is fear itself". If we can over come fear, a new door of opportunity can open up.That is what we need to take up by the horns.
Our Future is Now
To prevent the current problems and future loss of life,our countrymen must rise up to the occasion and teach people how to grow organic food using organic methods that cost nothing. These methods and many more can and will save more lives, resources and time for years to come. For example, the benefits of organic farming include:
1. Saving Energy:
What you grow in your own plot of land or garden need not be shipped to foreign lands. You
don't have to spray, or use refrigeration for days. Nor, do you have to store the food
somewhere in a warehouse. It is all less energy in planting and harvest.
2. Safety Of Food:
As you know, the commercial farming requires a lot of chemicals that could also
Contaminate the food supply,soil and our water system. Organic farming on the other hand,
requires no chemicals. You get all your fertilizers from the same garden through compost.
The food is not combined to prevent contamination.
3. Saving Water:
There is a water wars brewing in some corners of the United States because of the water
needed for irrigation in the Central Valley. Home gardens need less water and fields can't
be flooded. You can also harvest rain water for future use.
4. Money Saved:
This one is good for your pocket book especially these days when our economy is in the
tank. You can spend your saved resources on other things that matter to you. By the end of
the day, you will have dealt with the problems of food security for your family, and the
community at large.The food will be homegrown, eaten sooner after picking. It will have all
the needed nutrition ingredients for a health body to keep you kicking for years to come.
All this will come to materialize from your God given efforts,energy and love of natural way of living. Respecting the environment,the people and other creatures that share the same space as we do.It is that sense of wisdom, showing a measure of responsibility to mother earth so that she can continue to care for her own as she did centuries ago. We can do our job by helping her in the process.That process will allow us to reverse these troubled times we are now experiencing.
