If it takes a very long time for your computer to open a web page and you may be tempted to get a new computer or even change your ISP thinking they are the cause of your problems.
It can be very frustrating just having to sit there for several minutes sometimes waiting for a page to load when previously it took seconds.
A slow internet connection is more common than you think and affects a lot of people and will leave you asking why Internet Explorer is so slow.
In many cases though you can solve the problem quickly.
Here is how you can do it and save money.
#1 Add on toolbars are installed.
Some of these are adware and just generate constant adverts and pop ups.
#2 Spyware is on your computer, maybe as part of a toolbar.
#3 ISP problems.
your ISP is either throttling your connection or has a problem.
Run a speed test on your line to determine if this is the case.
You can run an online speed test to determine this.
Disable any toolbars.
To disable any toolbars do this: #1 Open Internet Explorer.
#2 Click on view and then toolbars and then untick any you did not install (they may be adware) or do not use.
Clear the cache and temporary files.
Go to tools, then internet options and then browsing history and delete all temporary files and cookies and history.
Check your line make sure you or someone else on a shared line is not downloading large files or watching streaming videos.
This will use a lot of the bandwidth on your line and result in your internet slowing to a crawl.
If someone on the line is watching YouTube videos all the time your connection will be impacted too and if your on a wireless connection it will become even slower.
If none of the above steps work there may be file or system corruption.
Run a full scan with a system and registry scanner and check for file and registry corruption.
This will also check for malware and adware which can bring your internet speed to a halt.
If you do have any type of malware on your computer you will find your computer becomes slower and slower as it uses all your system resources.
