How to Assemble a Stainless Braided Hose
- 1). Measure and cut the hose to length. Tightly wrap the hose with masking tape or duct tape before cutting; this keeps the stainless braid from fraying. Cut the hose using the hacksaw.
- 2). Insert the hose into the socket. Clamp the socket in the vise, and push the hose fully into the socket, using a twisting motion. When the hose is fully inserted into the socket, make a mark where the hose meets the socket, using the fine-tipped marker.
- 3). Thread the nipple into the socket. Thoroughly lubricate the threads of both the nipple and socket, as well as the inside of the hose, using motor oil or assembly lube. Thread the nipple fully into the socket, taking care that the socket remains fully seated on the hose (watch the mark made in the previous step). Tighten the nipple with an open-end wrench, within 1/16 inch of the socket.
