How to Do a Home Bikini Wax
- 1). Choose a hard wax bikini kit. The wax should be for the bikini line area specifically. Don't use a wax that is just for your legs, as your bikini area is much more sensitive; and always use hard wax, which grabs the coarser hair in that region better than soft wax. Soft wax is also much more painful to use in the bikini region. Look for hard waxes that are water-soluble so that if you decide you can't go through with the waxing you can simply wipe it off with a damp warm towel.
- 2). Wash the area thoroughly. If possible, exfoliate the area with a gentle skin scrub that contains either salicylic or glycolic acid, both of which help unclog pores. This helps soften the hair and the follicles, making it easier and less painful to remove. Dry the area well and sprinkle on baby powder to remove any extra moisture.
- 3). Prepare the wax according to the manufacturer instructions on the package. Follow the instructions to the letter to avoid any accidents with piping hot wax. Double-check temperature of the wax to make sure that it will not burn your skin before applying.
- 4). Smooth the wax onto small sections of the area at a time, going in the direction that the hair is growing.
- 5). Press the wax strip onto spot you just placed wax on, rubbing it in well.
- 6). Pull the skin around the waxing strip tight with one hand and quickly pull from the opposite direction of your hair growth with the other hand. Keep the waxing strip as close to your skin as possible while removing it to reduce pain.
- 7). Continue waxing different sections of the bikini area until you have achieved your desired result.
- 8). Treat the freshly waxed areas with an alcohol free astringent such as hydrogen peroxide to disinfect the area, then apply a soothing cream or oil to ease irritation such as aloe vera or tea tree oil.
