    Edelweiss Restaurant

    • Named fort the Alpine flower, the Edelweiss Restaurant offers fine dining with a European menu that focuses on the Black Forest region of Germany. The menu includes German classics like sauerbraten with potato dumplings and red cabbage, weiner schnitzel and jaeger schnitzel alongside more exotic selections such as sautéed kangaroo medallions and filet of ostrich. Entrée prices are mostly in the $20 to $30 range, as of March 2010. The Edelweiss has three dining rooms: the main dining room, or Black Forest room, features German wood carvings in a Black Forest theme; the non-smoking Edelweiss room is decorated in a country motif; and the Mozart room is decorated in a Viennese red, white and gold theme with wallpaper imported from Germany. The Alpine pub provides diners with a full bar selection that includes 16 types of draught beer, and the pub also offers a tavern menu for guests who prefer the pub's more casual atmosphere. Reservations recommended. Located on Route 940 in Pocono Lake, the Edelweiss is on the left if you're coming from Blakeslee.

    Bavarian Haus

    • Located within the Inne of the Abingtons, Bavarian Haus serves reasonably priced Polish and German cuisine in a casual atmosphere. The tables are placed within small alcoves, which create a semi-private dining experience. The mood is festive, with German music and polkas and hand-painted wall murals. Guests can dance to the Bavarian beat and enjoy the full bar, which includes many German beers and wines. The homemade food is served in generous portions that "make taste buds polka," according to the Wilkes-Barre Times Leader.

    Alpine Wurst & Meat House

    • The Alpine Wurst and Meat House specializes in German-style sausages, including homemade Bratwurst, Bockwurst, Weisswurst and Krainerwurst, which they make in the old-country style. The Deli side of the establishment offers custom-smoked meat, a large selection of cold cuts, pork and veal cut to order, and even more exotic meats such as buffalo and ostrich. The restaurant serves reasonably priced German-American favorites like Schnitzel and Sauerbraten, homemade soups and potato salad, and European-style breads and pastries. Guests can enjoy German dishes such as Sauerbraten or Kassler Rippchen (smoked pork chop topped with potato pancakes and red cabbage) or less-adventurous fare, like the Alpine beef burger. The Alpine also offers slightly pricier entrees from its charcoal grill, such as filet mignon and fresh grilled pork chops. A children's menu and special seniors' selections are also available. The Alpine is closed on Mondays.
