Particle Board Uses for Crafts Projects
- Create an unusual coffee table to appease the traveler inside you. Shop antique flea markets or garage sales for an old suitcase with firm sides to make this inexpensive space saver. Purchase chair legs from a hardware store and cut a piece of particle board to fit snugly inside the suitcase. Cover the particle board in a fabric that coordinates with the inside of the suitcase and use a staple gun to hold it in place. Fasten it down with wood glue. Pre-drill holes through the suitcase into the particle board so you can screw the legs in easily. Cover the top and sides of the case with polyurethane to protect it from water damage.
- Create a convenient holder for recipes cut from magazines, appointment cards and grocery lists using a scrap piece of particle board. Buy a large piece of a floral or gingham patterned fabric. Wrap the fabric around the piece of particle board and use a staple gun to hold it in place. Fold another piece of the fabric in half and attach it near the bottom of the board to form a pocket. Make the pocket small and tight enough that recipe and appointment cards can poke up over the edge. Attach a binder clip to the pocket for upcoming appointments to keep yourself from forgetting.
- Display your favorite pictures on an magnetic board that matches your decor. Select a colorful piece of fabric and wrap it around a piece of zinc-coated steel. Make sure the fabric is tight and hot glue it in place. Nail the steel plate into a piece of particle board around the edges. Attach a large, neutral colored frame to the edges of the steel to cover the nail holes. Place mounting brackets on the back of the frame to hang the magnetic board on the wall. Attach an adhesive pad to the back of your pictures and a magnet to place them on the board.
- Create the frame of a homemade doll house with strong and dense particle board. Attach the boards together with pin nails. Create the exterior frame and several rooms from the board. Attach thin paneling to the exterior of the house and the interior edges of the board for a smooth and attractive finish. Inside the house, cover the unattractive board with carpeting and wallpaper scraps. Paint the outside of the house and decorate the interior with small furniture that is available from a craft store. Finish the furniture with stain and polyurethane.
