How to Replace the Steering Damper on a Jeep Cherokee
- 1). Pop the hood of your vehicle and locate the steering damper. It looks similar to a shock absorber and runs parallel to the axle of your Cherokee.
- 2). Remove the two mounting bolts with a ratchet and a 15 mm socket. The nut on the opposite side will require a 19 mm wrench.
- 3). Remove the damper from the brackets.
- 4). Position the new steering damper into the brackets.
- 5). Reinstall the stock bolts and nuts. Tighten them with a ratchet, socket and wrench.
