Powerul Tips On How To Complete The Firefighter Application Form

5
How you complete your firefighter application form is very improtant. The first thing I always do is put myself in the shoes of the person who is assessing me each particular stage of the selection process. So, to begin with, I will think about the person who is marking my firefighter application form and I will ask myself the following two questions:

Q1. What would they want to see in a successful application?

Q2. How do they feel about marking all of these application forms?

Then, I simply write down my perceived answers to these questions, and I get the following responses:

A1. They want to see a well written, concise, and easy to read application that demonstrates the applicant has the potential to do the firefighters job. They also want to see that the applicant has followed all of the information provided in the guidance notes.

A2. They will most probably become bored of marking all of these application forms, especially if they have been marking them for days on end!

Once I have my two answers I will then set out a very simple plan that dictates exactly what I am going to do put those answers write. In this particular case it will look something like this:

- I will make sure that I read all of the information contained within the firefighter career guidance notes before I start to complete the application form. I will also highlight the key areas within the guidance notes that I must follow. If I do not follow the guidance notes carefully then my application may be rejected.

- When writing my application I will make sure that it is easy to read, concise and that it answers the questions exactly as required. It is my job to make the application form easy to mark. If the assessor has been marking scores of applications, then I want to make it easy for them.

I have personally marked hundreds of application forms in my time and I have also sat on many different interviews as an assessor. I know exactly what the assessors are looking for in potential firefighters and if you follow this simple process at every stage of the selection process then you will be a far better firefighter candidate. At the beginning of each stage of the selection process it is important to set out your plan on how you intend to pass.

The first stage in your preparation is to learn about the role of a firefighter. Before you start to complete the application form you must learn the role and understand exactly what it entails. The reason for this is simpoly because the person who is marking your form will assess you against the qualities and competencies required to carry out the role.
