How to Install the Intake Gasket on a 1994 Chevy Pickup

    • 1). Disconnect the negative battery cable. This is a must when performing any routine car maintenance as you don't want to be shocked while removing equipment. With the battery disconnected slide off the wing nuts holding the air filter housing in place, then disconnect the radiator hose clamp with your torque wrench. With the clamp removed slide the hose out of the way.

    • 2). Remove the two wires running to the air filter housing and completely slide out the air cleaner housing adapter.

    • 3). Pop the hood of your 1994 Chevrolet Pickup and locate the intake manifold gasket on the side of your engine. Attached to the gasket are rocker arms, which give a small amount of sway leeway to the engine and the exhaust system. You must remove the rocker arms before accessing the gasket.

    • 4). Spray penetrating oil to the bolts on the rocker arm. These bolts are holding the arms, and the gasket, in place. The penetrating oil helps reduce some of the residue coating the bolts.

    • 5). Remove the bolts with your torque wrench. Nudging the wrench along with a hammer may be required if you are unable to twist the wrench yourself.

    • 6). Disconnect the rocker arms from the intake manifold gasket. Once disconnected pry off the current gasket with your flat head screwdriver. With the gasket free slide it over the studs once attached to the bolts and rocker arms.

    • 7). Clean off debris and residue from the exposed manifold. A putty knife or other device used to scrape paint is necessary as the gunk is caked on pretty good. Once clean apply silicone to the location of the former gasket. This helps secure the new gasket into position.

    • 8). Place the new gasket into position. Take care to slide the gasket in straight, otherwise it may crack, forcing you to purchase and install another gasket. Slide the rocker arms back into position and tighten the bolts to secure the intake gasket and the rocker arms.
