    • 1). Fold the white paper in half. Find the fold’s middle and cut two one-inch slits an inch to two inches apart. Repeat this step for as many pages as are planned for the book.

    • 2). Unfold all the paper and push the cut flap through to stand out from the rest of the page. This will be used for the pop up item.

Write the story on the bottom part of the paper. Leave at least an inch below the pop up tab before starting to write. Consider using a ruler as a guide and draw lines on the page to help the writing stay straight. Continue this process until all the story is added onto a page.

    • 4). Print a picture to color and use as an illustration for the story. This could also be a drawing or picture cut out of a magazine. Glue the pictures or drawings on the pop up tab. Let the glue dry.

    • 5). Take the construction paper and fold it in half. Decorate the front with a picture or drawing, story title and the author’s name. Make sure to personalize the book by signing the back in the center on the bottom.

    • 6). Make sure the story is in order by placing the correct pages beside each other facing you. Take page one and glue the top outside of it to the inside top of the construction paper. Grab the story’s last page and glue the bottom outside page of it onto the bottom inside of the construction paper. Pages should be glued back-to-back so the picture shows and each page is attached. Continue to glue the story together using this process. Let the book dry before reading for the first time.

    • 7). Cut an arm’s length piece of yarn. Find the middle of the folded book. Place the middle of the yarn there and tie both ends together to help keep the book neatly together.
