A Little Bit About Hinckley, Leicestershire
Hinckley - Leicestershire lies south west of Leicester.
During the last census it had a population well over 40,000 people.
Hinckley's title is derived from the Old English language and translates to the 'woodland clearing of a man called Hynca'.
It is regarded as being a market town.
A notable piece of interest regarding Hinckley is that is Hinckley was the area in which the Battle of Bosworth occurred, the council arrange for reinactments of the this at Ambion Hill, the area where Richard III rested the night before battle.
In Dadlington, St Jame's Church houses many of the dead form the battle, at this site a Chantry was errected in their honour.
Hollycroft Park is situated within the centre of Hinckley it provides Tennis courts golf and lawn bowls and is acknowledged for being an excellent centre for sport.
Hinckley United is the main football team within Hinckley, it was founded in 1997 when the two main clubs Hinkcley Town and Hinckley Athletic were merged.
Their highest achievements so far are a mid-table finish wihtin the Conference North division and the second round of the FA cup.
The nickname of the team is the Knitters which was drawn from the towns association with textile producing.
The nickname for Hinckley affectionatly known by it's resisdents is 'Tin At'.
Apparently this comes from the story of a sheep drover who would brag that he could drink a full hat of ale.
A landlord wanted to test his claim and asked the blacksmith of the day to forge a tin hat.
An alternative explanation for this nickname comes from the fact that the townsfolk of Hinckley used to place metal cans on the top of water pumps in the hope of decreasing the spread if illness and keep them clean.
