Decorating a Country Wall
- 1). Prepare the wall as a foundation for hanging country accessories. Use a hammer to remove the base trim from the wall, being careful to pull out and save the nails. Paint the trim royal blue and allow it to dry. Sand the top edge of the trim with sandpaper to distress the wood until just a hint of the original color shows through. Set the trim aside.
- 2). Choose a classic, solid base color for your wall, such as golden-yellow, so your wall will be inviting while allowing country accessories to stand out. Pour the paint into a paint pan and apply to the wall with a paint roller. Allow the paint to dry completely. Apply a second coat of paint if necessary, and allow that coat to dry. Reattach the trim to the wall, using the same nails.
- 3). Place a rustic milk can close to the wall. Insert an old mailbox post with the post attached into the milk can. Hold the post straight while adding sand until the sand reaches the top lip of the milk can. The sand will hold the post in place. Turn the milk can so the opening of the mailbox faces the entry door. Open the mailbox and place three addressed, stamped envelopes in the mailbox near the opening where they can be seen. Wind a fake vine of morning glory flowers around the mailbox post.
- 4). Attach a vintage wall coat rack to the wall to the side of the mailbox, following the manufacturer’s instructions for attaching the coat rack to the wall. Hang a straw hat on one coat hook and an old work coat on another hook. Position a red kerchief so it hangs from one of the coat pockets and place a pair of worn, work gloves in the other pocket. Place a pair of old work boots on the floor under the coat rack.
- 5). Position and hang a welcome sign above the mailbox. Position and hang an eggs-for-sale sign just below the welcome sign.
