Ten Home Decorating Ideas For Instant Gratification
Do you ever find yourself looking around your house and thinking boring? Especially now that the winter months and the holidays are right around the corner? Add more style to your home and get ready for your friends and family at the same time with these home decorating ideas.
- 1.
Add an Area Rug:Area rugs can instantly make a change for the better to the look and feel to a room with a burst of color and/ or patterns.
Try rotating an existing rug (rugs "read" lighter one way and darker the other) or angle a rug you may have straight. - 2.
Add warmth to your windows.
If you presently have just a valence up at the window, maybe now is the time to add the panels.
Conversely, if you have just panels, add a swag over the top of the rod.
Add trim to the inside edge of some panels, or bullion fringe at the hem.
Layering more fabric at the window in the colder months will insulate and be warmer.
If you don't have any treatment at the window, put up a simple valence for a pop of color, maybe in the kitchen using vintage tea towels? - 3.
Keep Your Home Organized: Okay, that may not really sound much like home decorating ideas, but let me tell you the more organized and uncluttered your home is, the better it will look and the more comfortable it will feel.
Edit out some of your things completely or move some items from one room into another for a change.
- 4.
Try New Lighting:Update your rooms easily with some new lighting.
It's amazing how much more homey a room looks, and what a difference it will make.
Position your lighting in a triangle using accent lighting as well as task and general lighting. - 5.
Add Color:There are so many ways to add color to your home.
One of the easiest ways (and my favorite) is with throw pillows.
But you probably are due for new bed linens.
Treat yourself and your overnight guests to new sheets for the beds.
Also, new towels are an inexpensive and fun way to spruce up the bathrooms.
After all, these rooms will be seen! - 6.
And speaking of pillows:Pillows are a relatively inexpensive way to add punch of color.
Alternate the sizes so it is not so predictable and matching, and for added texture, cozy up on the easy chair with a great Sherpa throw. - 7.
Books:Books are great to read but can be a fabulous accent and not just in the bookcase.
Pile a stack of "coffee table" books on the floor next to an easy chair for a table, or give a "lift" to a vase or other accessory for added height on an end table.
Go to library book sales, thrift stores and yard sales if you don't have enough.
(And who does?) - 7.
Decorate Your Walls:To keep things fresh, add new artwork or rotate your existing paintings, framed photographs, sconces or whatever suits your fancy on your walls.
If you have a collection in an arrangement, edit it back to display one prominent piece for a cleaner focal point. - 8.
Redo dining chair seats:If you have upholstered dining chairs, easily change the look of your dining room with fabric (you don't need much so check the remnants at your favorite fabric store) and your staple gun.
Or add seat cushions that tie on for a punch of color and pattern. - 9.
Add HardwareHome decorating ideas for an instant update and new look in the kitchen is to replace the drawer and cabinet pulls.
Buy hardware in any number of a variety of styles and color choices and change the knobs on an existing piece of furniture or replace just a few for a custom look.
Different style knobs for each drawer of a bedroom dresser would be fun.
- 10.
Add Candles:You can try pillar candles in various sizes placed on a decorative tray, or one with a mirrored surface to catch the reflection of the flames.
Put the pillar candles in clear cylinder vases and fill with berries of the season.
