Can Body Building Be Dangerous?

37
Body Building Can Be an Extreme Sport When an individual embraces the sport with great passion there can be a tendency to exert pressure on himself to reach his goals too quickly.
As a result, he may overwork his muscles beyond reason and adopt a strict diet that can have life-long consequences.
They will do whatever it takes to be one of the best, or go into competition - and win! (I am using the pronoun he, but this also applies to women.
) Overworking the body can carry consequences - specifically injuries that result from pushing too hard or working out incorrectly.
There are also potential long-term consequences - the most common being stretch marks that result from extreme growth of muscles, which ultimately turn into flabby skin as the individual ages.
Not particularly dangerous, but certainly not attractive.
Excessive weight gain after the constant exercise stops (and it does stop eventually) is another consequence.
This is particularly true for women because their bodies are naturally more prone to weight gain than men.
How to Avoid Problems Moderation is the key! Body building can be an excellent choice for developing strength and carving the body; but, it doesn't have to be an extreme sport.
Always exercise under the supervision of an instructor.
Discuss your goals and talk about potential consequences of any program that you choose.
If your program includes a protein diet, and most do, you should plan on it being a permanent part of your lifestyle.
If you have been on a protein diet for any extended period of time and suddenly change to regular food, you will have problems.
The new diet will be so unfamiliar to your body that it will be assimilated as fat - and the pounds will begin to add up.
You should also plan to exercise regularly for the rest of your life.
Working hard until you reach your goal of a sculpted body and the great look you have always wanted, and then reverting back to a relatively inactive lifestyle is not a good idea.
You cannot stop your exercise routine suddenly or the weight will pile on.
You can cut back slowly, but never eliminate it completely.
In other words, body building, or a modified version of it should become a constant in your life, once you start.
The body doesn't understand extreme changes in diet and exercise and will produce unwanted consequences as a result.
Words of Wisdom to Ponder
  • Never take body building to the extreme (unless you want to compete)
  • Eat healthy, balanced meals always
  • Set up your body-building program and practice with a qualified instructor
  • Remember that excess is dangerous - even exercise
  • Moderation in all things is a better choice
I want to emphasize again the importance of choosing a gym with reputable, qualified body building trainers who are knowledgeable and very good at what they do.
Ask the trainers you are considering for references, find out how many people they work with and interview some of them.
With the right trainer, you can protect yourself while accomplishing exactly what you want to accomplish with the body building program, if you are determined and willing to do the work.
