How to Remove Tacky Glue From Painted Car Surfaces
- 1). Purchase a multipurpose stain remover that dissolves glues and adhesives from your local home improvement center or hardware store. Popular brands such as Un-Du, Goo Gone, and Goof Off are solvents that safely eliminate glue from clothing and fabrics, among other surfaces.
- 2). Spray the product directly onto the affected area on your car or apply it with a rag, according to what the directions read on the product label. A microfiber cloth will be the most safely effective material for removing the glue.
- 3). Allow the solvent to set for the instructed length of time, which will soften the glue. Then scrub the area using a moderate amount of pressure until the loosened glue is lifted from the painted surface.
- 4). Do not attempt to use force if stubborn glue doesn't dissolve immediately. Simply add more of the solution to your cleaning cloth or allow it to soak the residue for a longer period of time.
- 5). Continue to apply the product as necessary until the excess film has been completely lifted from the painted surface. Then follow up removal with a car detailing spray or car wash soap for a thorough cleaning of the area.
