Tempur-Pedic Topper Cleaning
- Your Temper-Pedic topper will arrive rolled up, and it may have an odor from the manufacturing process. It will take a few hours for it to "settle in" and become flat, and the smell will dissipate in a few days. Also, cooler temperatures under 65 degrees F will yield in a firmer pad. It will soften after laying down on it for a while because of your body's heat. The Temper-Pedic material is easily affected by temperature, so the manufacturer recommends that you avoid using a heating blanket or heating pad.
- There are removable covers available to protect your Temper-Pedic topper, which are machine washable in cold water only. Temper-Pedic says you should not use bleach or harsh stain removal products, which may damage the covers. Also, you should either air-dry the covers or use the coolest setting on your dryer. Over-drying may shrink the covers, thereby rendering them impossible to get back on to your mattress topper.
- Even with a removable cover, your Temper-Pedic topper may get dirty or stained. Temper-Pedic says that its mattress material is not washable; however, rather than throwing it away or living with a severely stained and smelly topper, there are a few measures you can take, at your own risk.
- A low-risk cleaning method to get rid of smells, debris and skin cells is to sprinkle some baking soda on top and let it sit for an hour or so. Then vacuum. However, for spills or urine, soak as much of it as possible with towels soon after the accident happens. Then, in a spray bottle, mix equal parts of white vinegar, hydrogen peroxide and water. Spray on the topper; do not saturate or pour it on. Then blot it up with clean towels or rags and repeat if necessary. Air-dry your Temper-Pedic topper. You can let it remain on your bed and turn on a couple fans, or you can hang it outside in the sun. Know that this process will probably bleach the Temper-Pedic mattress material.
