Tile Roofing, Concrete Tile
Definition:
The concrete tile roof is an extremely durable interlocking tile roofing material and is a more economical choice than its clay tile cousin. Tile roofs are heavier than asphalt shingle roofing and require a roof structure capable of handling the additional weight. With the extra weight however, comes extreme durability. Tile roofs can last 50 to 100 years or more. Concrete tiles are fire resistant and carry a Class A fire rating and unlike asphalt shingles, concrete tiles are also resistant to hail damage and strong winds.
Tiled roofs are designed to meet hurricane force winds when properly installed (up to 150 MPH).
The aesthetic range of concrete tile roofing has improved over early versions due to advances in manufacturing and pigmenting technologies. Concrete tiles can now be made to look like wood shake, clay tiles, slate or stone. The tiles themselves have a range of finish textures including being smooth or textured.
