How to Get Rid of Cassette Tapes
- 1). Give the cassette tapes away. Ask friends if they have any need for old cassettes. Put up a listing on Freecycle or Craigslist (see links in Resources below), and maybe someone will be interested in picking up your old cassette tapes. With any luck, you might just find a vintage music aficionado or someone who is interested in erasing and reusing the tapes.
- 2). Recycle the cassette tapes. E-waste recycling companies, such as GreenDisk and Lacerta (see Resources), will take large amounts of cassette tapes and other electronic waste via mail order for recycling. These companies target large industrial companies, though, so you may not have enough cassettes for it to be worth the company's time.
- 3). Check with your community government to see if there are local electronic waste pickup locations. If there are, take your cassette tapes and drop them off at a disposal point.
