How to Find an Attorney Willing to Expose a Prominent Attorney's Unethical Practices
- 1). Call the local or state bar associations. Although these organizations cannot recommend a specific attorney, they do maintain directories of attorneys that practice in particular areas of the law. These directories include the names of legal malpractice attorneys.
- 2). Schedule an appointment with two or three attorneys to discuss your situation. Your best option likely will be a legal malpractice attorney near--but outside--your particular community. In some instances, a local legal malpractice attorney is not comfortable taking on a colleague in the same community because of prior professional or social interactions.
- 3). Meet with the selected attorneys individually, and explain your situation regarding the unethical conduct of a prominent attorney. A lawyer may be willing to pursue a legal malpractice case on your behalf. If the lawyer you meet believes that there is an ethical issue with the prominent attorney, the attorney you consult is legally obligated to report that other lawyer to the state disciplinary agency.
- 4). Complete any standard complaint form provided by the attorney you consult.
- 5). Return the completed complaint form to the attorney you consult, or file it directly with the attorney regulatory agency. You can obtain the address and other contact information for the agency from either the lawyer you consult or from the clerk of the state supreme court.
