How to Get a Discount on Auto Insurance When You Car Is in Storage?
- 1). Call your lender if you have a loan on your vehicle. Tell a representative that you want to store your vehicle for a specified period of time. Ask if you can switch to a comprehensive only policy and remove your full coverage insurance.
- 2). Call your insurance company to determine your state's rules for replacing a liability policy with comprehensive coverage. If it is allowed, check prices to determine if the savings are worthwhile. You may be required to return your plates and provide a receipt to your insurance company to complete the switch; your lender may require the same.
- 3). Return your plates at a motor vehicle office, if required by either your insurance company or lender. Obtain a receipt and provide it to whomever requires it.
- 4). Cancel the insurance coverage you no longer need and add comprehensive only coverage during the storage period.
