How to Replace the Abu Garcia Activator Bar
- 1). Lay the white cloth or paper on a work bench. As you remove parts from the reel, set them on the white surface to prevent loss. Set them down in the order you remove them to help with reassembly.
- 2). Unscrew the outside knob using your fingers. This knob is in the center of the reel housing.
- 3). Unscrew the handle and remove it. Pull out the washer stack and leave it on the handle spindle. Unscrew the three small screws holding the outside of the spool housing. Pull the spool housing off, exposing the cast thumb mechanism and the activator bar.
- 4). Push the activator bar out from the thumb cast mechanism using the tip of a flathead screwdriver.
- 5). Add a small drop of dry lube to each side of the housing where the bar rests. Push the new bar into the housing.
- 6). Reassemble the Abu Garcia reel parts in the reverse order of removal.
- 7). Press the thumb button several times to work the lubricant into the bar housing, making it more efficient on casts.
