How to Customize a 1987 Honda VFR700
- 1). Replace the stock exhaust system with an aftermarket system made of carbon fiber and stainless steel. This will reduce weight, add a very modern look to your 1980s-era motorcycle and result in a slight gain in horsepower, as aftermarket pipes provide a larger air space for exhaust.
- 2). Replace the standard disc brake pads with ceramic pads. Switching to ceramic pads can increase braking power, adding to safety. Make sure when doing this modification that your brake rotors can handle the extra force, and that you take time to acclimate yourself to your newly reduced braking distances.
- 3). Replace the OEM plastic that covers the engine of your Honda VFR. You can either go with a whole new color scheme to freshen up the look, or you can move beyond pure aesthetic customization and add carbon fiber cladding to your VFR which will also reduce the overall weight of your bike.
- 4). Change out the standard OEM pegs with billet-machined units. This will reduce weight and add a custom look to your VFR that will make it resemble a factory racer.
- 5). Switch out the factory wheels with a lightweight alloy or carbon fiber set of rims. These rims will reduce weight in the most crucial place. Decreasing rolling resistance is the best place to cut weight, as it is the part of the bike that is being propelled. Wheel modifications can increase performance exponentially, while also allowing you to show off your own personal style.
