The State Gaming Control Board of Nevada (NGCB) recently announced that it will accept online poker license in Nevada from companies to operate internet poker sites from February 2012. This development would allow online poker players from Nevada to play real money online poker.

This can be seen as a vindication of sorts for the long running efforts of poker aficionados advocated such a move. To this effect, the Nevada Gaming Control Board has made recommendations to the State Legislature to revise gaming regulations in order to accommodate online poker in view of the revenue opportunities and potential for job creation. It goes without saying, however, that these regulations would be subject to federal government approval.

While attending the U.S Online Gaming Law conference at the Aria last Thursday, Mark Lipparelli, Chairman of the Gaming Control Board revealed this new development related to poker. He also said that any applicants that already hold licenses for land based poker or casino gaming would be expedited through the application process.

"We've taken our brick-and-mortar operational standards to a new level," Lipparelli said. "We're going to continue to be flexible, but we think we've set the bar high for licensing and suitability."

As stated by Lipparelli, organizations already operating in Nevada will have the advantage of getting the license faster. Instead of undergoing a thorough investigation, they will be offered a new title that will get attached to their already existing permit for poker in Nevada.

On the other hand, for new companies to obtain online poker license in Nevada, they would first have to prove that their technology would be available to players of legal age only. Then a long and lengthy process of audit and inspection would ensue, translating into longer waiting periods for these contenders.

The procedure of acquiring an online poker license in Nevada will be very thorough and exacting. Operators must adopt technologies that help them meet globally accepted standards of player protection, fraud prevention, protection of privacy, and others security policies.

Online poker license in Nevada - Good or Bad News for Online Players
This announcement has brought some cheer to online poker players in USA. As of now, the licenses issued would permit operators to offer online only the residents of Nevada and would not be available to those outside the state's borders. This may be attributed to the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act (UIGEA) of 2006 which restrict inter-state. Nevertheless, players and industry experts are hopeful that this would turn out to be a first step in a series of amendments that would finally allow players from all over USA to play poker.
