How to Replace the Wiper Motor on a 1997 Blazer
- 1). Pry off the rubber stoppers covering the nuts holding the wiper arms to the vehicle. Each wiper arm has one stopper. Wedge the head of the flat head screwdriver between the rubber stopper shoulder and the mating surface and pry upward.
- 2). Unscrew the nuts holding the wiper arms to the Blazer using the socket wrench.
- 3). Pull the wiper arms from the mounting bolts, wiggling the arms back and forth to release them completely.
- 4). Pop off the plastic cover pins over the screws that hold the intake grating in place. Wedge the sharp end of a pick under the cover pin and pop it off. Hold your free hand over the pin as you pop off the pin so that it doesn't fly away.
- 5). Pull the intake grating off the bulkhead. Lay it on the windshield.
- 6). Unplug the power cord powering the wiper motor by depressing the sides of the plug and pulling the plug off the socket.
- 7). Locate the bolts mounting the wiper motor to the bulkhead. Remove these with a socket wrench and use the long extension on the socket wrench to reach the lower mounting bolts.
- 8). Pull the wiper motor off the bulkhead.
- 9). Insert the mounting bolts into the rubber sleeves of the new wiper motor to prep the motor for installation.
- 10
Install the new wiper motor by lining up the bolts with the rivets on the bulkhead and hand tightening each bolt before using the socket wrench to make the bolts snug. - 11
Attach the power cord to the new wiper motor and replace the intake grating, the plastic cover pins, the wiper arms and the rubber stoppers over the nuts of the wiper arms.
