Video Transcript
Hello, this is Nicholas Staddon, I'm with Monrovia. Today, we're gonna talk about how to protect plants from winter winds. Regardless of where you live in the United States, winter winds can turn really cold and bitter, and we're gonna show you some unique tips on how to protect your plants. It's not all that difficult. So when planting your garden, make sure your garden is uses the house as a barrier for protection. Houses can be really block those cold easterly or northerly winds sweeping across the garden. They make a great barrier. Fiber blanket is very warm, and it protects plants even in the lowest of temperatures. You cover the whole plant, and it keeps her quite warm, sits nicely on top of the plants, and the great thing is, that once she's on there, she actually allows the plants to breathe. So let's say you're below freezing, for a number of days, you can still keep this on the plants and they won't burn underneath like they would with plastic on them. And very easy to remove, no damage, no broken branches, you can just roll her up, put her in the garage 'till you need to bring her out the next time. So the last method is a tried and trued practice in Europe. We hammer stakes into the ground, and then what we do is we put burlap between the two stakes. This side will be completely protected, this side is where the cold air and the wind is coming from.
