How to Capture SWFs
- 1). Open your browser and navigate to the website that contains the SWF you would like to save.
- 2). Click "File" and then "Source" in Internet Explorer, or click "File" and then "Page Source" in Firefox.
- 3). Press Ctrl + "F" to open the "Find" dialog box in the source window containing all the code. Enter ".swf" and press return. The first instance of ".swf" will be highlighted. If this is not the correct one, then press "F3" to begin cycling through each instance of ".swf" until you find the correct one. This can usually be identified by the name of the file or by looking for text similar to that surrounding the animation on the page.
- 4). Copy the file name, complete with the URL, as it's listed in the code, usually residing inside quotes. If the URL says, "http://www.somethingsomething.com/flashfile.swf", then you want to copy everything inside the quotes. If you only see a file name, like "flashfile.swf", then copy that.
- 5). Go back to the main browser window and paste the URL into the address bar. If you copied a full URL, such as "http://www.somethingsomething.com/flashfile.swf", then paste that. However, if you copied a file name, then you need to use the current URL but delete everything past the last "/" and paste the file name, making sure not to end up with two "/" in the URL. As an example, if you copied "flashfile.swf", and the URL is "http://www.somethingsomething.com/subfolder/index.htm", then delete "index.htm" and replace with "flashfile.swf", such that the final URL reads "http://www.somethingsomething.com/subfolder/flashfile.swf". Press "Enter," and the SWF file should appear by itself in the window.
- 6). Press "Ctrl" + "S" to save the SWF to a location of your choice.
