Tried and True Basketball Drills

20
There are some tried and true basketball workouts that will help you to improve your skills.
The One Arm Shooting Warm Up In order to gain some skill in shooting, stand about three feet from the basket and perform one arm jumper shots.
When doing this warm up, the only baskets that count are those which are "all net.
" Hitting the rim doesn't count.
This will give you a great warm up for the muscles in your arm, add to your targeting skill of shooting for the net and give you a better feel for those close-up shots.
You will be surprised at how much your one arm shots will improve - and by doing this drill, you will be warmed up for a practice session.
Set a goal of how many "all net" shots from the center of the paint, from the left and from the right to constitute your complete warm up period.
"250 to 500" Next, move on to shooting workouts.
Shoot from different spots on the court, and make 250 to 500 shots.
From the wing, shoot from each spot until you have worked your way around to the other wing.
Shoot from mid-range, then start taking shots from the free throw line.
Shoot from a dribble in order to increase your ability to take the shot from anywhere on the court and from any position in the dribble.
Exercise your Core Using the weight room to train for core strength and balance is the key here.
Don't neglect the old standbys of pushups, situps and pullups.
Each of these enhance the strength of your body by calling on each muscle group to get to work.
Don't restrict yourself to just using the free weights.
Bodyweight exercises work your body as a unit to improve.
You Need Ball Handling Drills There are a number of ball handling drills that you should practice.
All drills should be practiced with your dominant and non-dominant hands.
After all, sometimes on the court, you won't be able to rely on your dominant hand, so be prepared by working both sides of your body to perfection.
Jump Shots You want to jump as high as you can in order to sink those jump shots.
The higher you jump, the easier it is to keep the ball away from your opponent, and get it into the basket.
There are special exercises you can do to increase your vertical leap.
Work those into your workouts each time.
These will help you to improve your game and increase your chances of going pro, or becoming a coach.
Most of all: practice and persistence are critical to your success.
