    Preparation

    • 1). Determine the recommended ohm load for the subwoofer's amplifier. The recommended speaker loads and acceptable wiring configurations can be found in the documentation supplied with your amplifier.

    • 2). Examine the rear of the subwoofer for markings that indicate the product's voice coil rating. The L5 subwoofer series features either "Dual 2-ohm" or "Dual 4-Ohm" voice coil arrangement.

    • 3). Decide on the wiring configuration needed for your subwoofer, according to your amplifier's ohm load specifications. Subwoofers that feature "Dual 2-ohm" voice coils, wired in parallel will provide a 1-ohm load to the amplifier, while wiring the voice coils in series will result in 4 ohms. Using the same principles, the impedance rating for "Dual 4-Ohm" subwoofers will reduce by half when wired in parallel (2 ohms) and double in a series configuration (8 ohms).

    Wiring In Parallel

    • 1). Fashion two 5-inch lengths of individual speaker wire, followed by a 1-foot length of unseparated wire. Strip off 3/8-inch of insulation from each speaker wire, using a pair of wire strippers.

    • 2). Connect the "Coil 1 +" and "Coil 2 +" terminals with a short length of speaker wire. The "Coil 1 +" terminal features a white colored dot marking, directly across from the red "Coil 2 +" terminal. Connect the remaining "Coil 2 -" to the "Coil 1 --" terminals, using the other short length of speaker wire.

    • 3). Connect the corresponding 1-foot speaker wire leads to "Coil 1 +" and "Coil 1 --" subwoofer terminals.

    • 4). Connect the speaker wires leading from the subwoofer to the appropriate red "+" and negative "-" speaker terminals inside the subwoofer enclosure.

    • 5). Wire the external subwoofer enclosure terminals to your amplifier, according to the equipment's installation instructions. Cut and strip an appropriate length of wire for the amplifier-to-enclosure connection, using the wire strippers.
