How to Remove a Velcro Splint

37
    • 1). Talk to your doctor. Do not remove your Velcro splint unless instructed by your doctor who will indicate when your injury has healed. However, you will likely be permitted to remove the splint while showering.

    • 2). Rest the affected body part. If you have a splint on a lower extremity, sit down to remove it. If you are removing a Velcro splint from an upper extremity, rest your arm on a table.

    • 3). Loosen the Velcro tabs. Slowly loosen one Velcro tab at a time. Depending on the location of your splint and size, you may have anywhere from four to six tabs to loosen.

    • 4). Unlace the splint, if necessary. Some Velcro splints have a lace-up component underneath the Velcro. Gently untie the laces and loosen, as if you were removing a pair of sneakers.

    • 5). Slide your body part out of the splint. Slowly use your hands -- or the opposite hand if your injury is to your arm -- to remove the splint.
