Privacy Hedge Garden Plans

15
    • 1). Figure out exactly where you want to plant the privacy hedge around your property. It might just be the space along your garden or between the property lines, or you might want the hedge to run all the way around your yard for maximum privacy.

    • 2). Look for types of privacy hedges that will fill in quickly, such as an American arborvitae or evergreen trees.

    • 3). Visit your local nursery to pick out the shrubbery that will make up your hedge. Try to find plants or trees that are already about 6 feet high. This will ensure you get the privacy you need right away.

    • 4). Space the plants or trees far enough apart that they have room to fill in and become thick for added privacy. The exact spacing will depend on the species you choose, but it will usually be around 3 to 4 feet. Consult with a worker at your local nursery for more exact measurements.

    • 5). Plan to dig the trench for your privacy hedge several feet away from your garden. This is so the root system does not interfere with your other plants. When using trees, add several more feet of space.
