How to Recover From a Runtime Error
- 1). Press the "Ctrl," "Alt" and "Delete" keys on your keyboard. Your desktop should disappear and be replaced by a window.
- 2). Click the "Task Manager" button on the window. This returns you to the desktop and opens the program.
- 3). Find and click the program that caused the runtime error. Typically, the program will have a comment that reads "Not Responding."
- 4). Click the "End Task" button. A window will appear asking if you want to wait for the program. Click the "End Task" button in that window as well.
- 5). Repeat these steps if the program does not exit immediately. Right-click the program that has issues. In the window that appears, click "Go to Process." You will be taken to the Process Manager.
- 6). Click the "End Process" button. If a box appears and warns you that closing the program may cause instability and you know the program is not being used by the system--and the Process tab lists your username and not the word "System"--click "Yes." This will stop the program from running.
