Katrina Schmidt has over 15 years’ experience teaching private and group voice in her home studio, at Brigham Young University, and at Utah Valley University. She performs regularly as a soloist and chorus member in weddings, funerals, recitals, church services, church and community choirs, musical theater, and with the Omaha Symphonic Chorus.
Experience

Katrina teaches private and group voice classes ranging in age from pre-teens to adults and successfully prepared many students for college auditions and vocal competitions. Sharing her talents with a local elementary school and nursing home, she created an innovative children’s program teaching young children pitch, rhythm, and an overall love of music. She also conducted both children and adult choirs at her local church and oversaw musical selections for weekly services.

Katrina’s performed roles range from Rosalinde in “Die Fleidermaus” to Maria in “West Side Story”, and she has been highlighted as a soprano soloist in numerous recitals and in various productions of Handel’s “Messiah”. She generated four hour-long recitals on specified styles and hard to find music such as Germanic women composers, early music (especially Bach), religious themed music, and opera. And she was the lead vocalist for a folk band that toured elementary schools.
Education

Katrina has a master’s degree in music with an emphasis in vocal performance from Brigham Young University. There, she was privileged to work with top coaches, music educators, music librarians, and musicologists. She was awarded a yearly scholarship and honored as one of Brigham Young University’s Singers of the Year. In addition to her major classes, Katrina studied French, Italian, and German. She speaks German fluently and took upper level courses in German pronunciation and grammar.
Katrina Schmidt

Singing, performing, and teaching are my passion. Excelling as a vocal soloist since fifth grade with lead roles in many school musicals, I was on track to becoming a full-time singer. My first setback came at college while practicing vocal techniques that encouraged tension. And later, I developed Temporal Mandibular Joint Dysfunction due to ill-managed braces. A “natural” is never the most sympathetic or knowledgeable teacher, and I have personally learned and re-learned the same basic vocal skills you seek to apply. Having guided hundreds in their quest to reach their own vocal goals, I hope my experience helps you sing beautifully. Feel free to contact me with any questions, comments, or concerns.
