How to Remove an Aluminum Window

9
    • 1). Cut through the paint where the window's trim meets the wall of both the interior and exterior of the window with a utility knife. Cutting through the paint will avoid chipping the paint when the window is removed.

    • 2). Apply several strips of masking tape over the interior and exterior of each glass pane to prevent the glass from shattering when the window is removed.

    • 3). Remove the trim which surrounds both the exterior and interior of the window with a hammer, a flat pry bar and a chisel. If any trim pieces are to be reused, pry the pieces in small increments to avoid cracking or otherwise damaging the trim.

    • 4). Cut through the window's retaining nails with a reciprocating saw equipped with a metal-cutting blade from the exterior side of the window. There are several nails which are driven through the window's frame into the studs of the structure. Between the window's frame and the studs is a small gap. Insert the blade of the saw into this gap, then use the saw to cut through the nails.

    • 5). Insert a pry bar into the gaps between the window's frame and the structure's studs, then gradually pry the window out of its opening.
