How do I Remove a Dodge Dakota Truck Taillight Assembly?

26
    • 1). Lift and support your Dodge Dakota's hood. Loosen the bolt holding the negative battery cable to its post on the battery with a socket wrench. Remove the cable and position it completely away from the battery in a way that ensures it cannot come back into contact with the battery. The negative battery post should be clearly marked with a minus symbol (-) on top of the battery case.

    • 2). Lower the tailgate at the rear of the truck. Remove the single Phillips screw on the top inner side of the taillight assembly, using your screwdriver.

    • 3). Grasp the taillight assembly on its left and right sides and gently pull it toward you. Do not yank the assembly out of place or try to pull it too far, because there are wires still connected to the back of it.

    • 4). Tear off a piece of white painter's tape, write "BACK UP LIGHT" on it and place the tape on the bottom light socket. Tear off another piece of tape and write "TAILLIGHT" on it, then stick the tape on the top light socket.

    • 5). Unlock the lower light socket from the taillight assembly by rotating it a quarter turn counterclockwise. Pull the socket away from the taillight assembly carefully to avoid breaking the bulb. Unlock and remove the top light socket just as you removed the lower socket.
