2000 Chevy S10 Alternator Removal
- 1). Disable the stereo's anti-theft lockout feature if the truck is equipped with a "Delco Loc II" stereo system. This requires a special code that should be included with the manual. You may also be able to get it from the manufacturer with proof of ownership.
- 2). Disconnect the truck's negative battery cable.
- 3). Label each of the alternator's electrical connectors with colored tape or other type of adhesive labels so you know where each one is connected. Unbolt and disconnect the connectors.
- 4). Remove the engine's serpentine drive belt by rotating the tensioner counterclockwise with a ratchet and socket to relieve the tension and slipping the belt off. Check the routing diagram on the radiator shroud for the path the belt must follow for reinstallation.
- 5). Disconnect the heater hose bracket from the rear end of the alternator by removing its bolts with the wrench. This is only needed if the S10 truck has a 4.3 liter V6 engine.
- 6). Remove the bolts holding the alternator in place with the wrench and then lift the alternator off and out of the engine.
