How to Convert a Honda Turbo
- 1). Spread the parts from the turbo kit on a bench and make an inventory. Make sure you have everything you need before you start.
- 2). Lift the Honda with the jack and lower it on the jack stands.
- 3). Disconnect the exhaust pipe from the exhaust manifold and take the exhaust manifold off the cylinder head.
- 4). Join the turbocharger and the new exhaust manifold, taking care to install the new gasket according to manufacturer's instructions.
- 5). Connect the turbocharger and exhaust manifold assembly to the cylinder head. Tighten the bolts with the torque wrench to the specifications quoted in the turbocharger instructions. Attach the tubing coming from the turbo to the exhaust pipe.
- 6). Attach the oil line going to the turbo to the part of the engine which will be supplying the oil. Usually, it's the oil pressure sensor. The location will be given in the instructions.
- 7). Remove the oil pan. Attach a drain to the oil pan. This may require the services of a local shop. The oil returns to the engine through this line after it has lubricated the turbocharger.
- 8). Install the boost gauge by running a vacuum line from the passenger compartment to one of the vacuum lines in the engine compartment. The instructions will tell you which lines to use. Mount the gauge on the dashboard.
- 9). Flash the engine control unit to increase fuel flow and adjust ignition timing to match the increased air brought in by the turbo. You may be able to do this yourself if you have a tuner. The new firmware settings are on the turbo manufacturer's web site or may come on a disk inside the kit.
