Left Side of Forearm, After Stripping - Cleaning Oil From Wood
Left side of firearm after strip & wash. Nicks and scars are evident, along with oil intrusion. I set out to remove as much oil from the wood as possible. My first attempt, using Trewax Wood Cleaner, was a disaster. The container didn't tell me whether it was meant for use on finished or unfinished wood, so I tried it. Turns out, the stuff is oily, so all I did was get more oil into the wood. Bummer.
Next I tried some acrylic enamel reducer, which pretty much only removed the wood cleaner. Acetone did well with removing oil from the surface, but not so much with the stuff that had penetrated. Ronsonol lighter fluid acted a little oily upon application and didn't do much to remove oil.
In the end, I used some strong concentrated liquid dish soap and a toothbrush, in the sink. Scrub, rinse, repeat. The rinsed and scrubbed again with clean toothbrush to remove all of the concentrated soap, and rinsed twice after thee last sign of soap suds.
