How to Find Minnows in Winter
- 1). Locate a small local lake. Small lakes are good fishing sources in the winter time because their temperatures will fluctuate faster and bring the fish closer to the surface. Fish will be wherever the warmer temperatures are.
- 2). Find out if the lake has a spring and then search where the spring is. This spring will be at least 10 degrees warmer. The minnows will usually not be directly on top of it because the water from there is a liquid form of oxygen. The fish will be close to this spring, though, to enjoy the warmer water.
- 3). Go to the lake on a sunny, mild winter day and go to where there is a dam or any shallow water. The sun will warm that water and minnows will be there taking advantage of the warmth.
- 4). Use a surface temperature meter to measure the temperature of the water. Where the surface temperature is warmer, the water will be warmer and minnows should be there.
