Audio Files

• The most commonly used audio file types include MP3, Microsoft Adaptive Differential Pulse Code Modulation, and Uncompressed Pulse Code Modulation. Of these, MP3 is used the most. These types of audio files are embedded within the AVI file, most often in conjunction with a video file.
  
  

Video Files

• The most common video codecs used with AVI files are DivX, Cinepak, Indeo, DV, MJPEG and Uncompressed RGB or YUY2 codec. Special codecs must be installed on the computer for some of these to be read and played, such as the DivX codec.
  
  

Players

• Windows Media Player--versions 7, 9, 10, 11 and WMP for Windows XP--is capable of playing back AVI files. So long as the proper codec is installed, the video will automatically play.
