How to Set Up a Dial-Up Modem in XP
- 1). Click the green "Start" button in the lower left-hand corner of your screen. Click the "Control Panel" button in the menu that appears.
- 2). Double-click the "Network and Internet Connections" icon in the Control Panel window. Click on "Create a connection to the network at your office" in the Network and Internet Connections window.
- 3). Select "Dial-up connection" in the Connection Wizard and click the "Next" button to continue. Enter the telephone number your Internet service provider has given you to make a dial-up connection.
- 4). Select which Windows users you would like to have access to this Internet connection. Choose whether or not you want Windows XP to create a desktop shortcut for this Internet connection. Hit the "Finish" button to complete the creation of the dial-up connection.
- 5). Click the "Start" button and select "Connect To" in the menu that appears. Click to select the connection you created in the previous steps. Enter your user name and password in the provided fields. Click the "Dial" button at the bottom of the window to establish an Internet connection.
