Apartment Home Decorating
- 1). Change the look of floors with area rugs. The drab flooring and neutral-colored wall-to-wall carpeting favored by landlords can easily be covered up with brightly colored rugs.
- 2). Hang curtains in front of the windows. Apartments often have vinyl blinds that you can't remove or replace. Install brackets over the top of the window and hang a rod and new curtains. You can fill in any holes later with spackle.
- 3). Choose furniture pieces that do double duty without taking up a lot of space. Look for bench seating and ottomans that have storage space inside. A convertible couch or futon can serve for both seating and sleeping.
- 4). Add photos and posters to the walls with poster putty. This is a sticky substance that you can pull away from the walls after use, without leaving behind any marks.
- 5). Choose lighter-colored furniture rather than darker pieces. Apartments are small spaces and lighter-colored furniture helps open up the space and makes it feel larger. Darker furniture weighs down the room and can make the space feel dark and oppressive.
