When it comes time to choose a care home, it can be a very stressful time in your life.
Whether you are choosing one for your parents, or yourself it should not be a decision to make with out a lot of research.
There are many Homes for you and your loved ones to choose from, but first you need to decide what is important to you and what you are willing to let slide if needs be in making your decision.
One of the most important things to look at is how many residents is one nurse or caretaker in charge of? Do you, or your parents require a lot of one on one care, or are you looking for more independence? Some homes have as little as six residents per caretaker, while others have many more per caretaker.
After deciding what ratio of resident to caretaker will meet your needs, you will want to decide whether you would prefer to live in a care home with a lot of residents, or not as many, some may only have ten, while others could have several hundred.
After you have decided on the size of facility and how many other residents you want around you, then you need to start deciding location, and amenities.
Is the location close to family members so they can still visit you at the weekends? What do they have to offer you? Is there a pool, golf course, or any other amenities you may wish to use on a regular basis? What kind of meals do they serve, are they nice and flavorful or do they taste like hospital food? What are their rules, are you able to leave? These are just some of the things you should look at and for when you are searching for a Care Home.
Whether it is for yourself, parent, or other family member, you should make sure that all needs will be met for the person moving in to the home.
Remember, do not let any one push you to hurry and make decisions, that is when you tend to make decisions you will regret later.
