How to Mount Saddlebags to a Softail
- 1). Remove the fender support cover screws with a Torx screwdriver. They should be clearly visible on the fender.
- 2). Slide a lock washer into place over two cap screws, then insert them in the two top holes of the saddlebag hanger. The caps screws require a Torx screwdriver.
- 3). Put a wide spacer then a narrow spacer on the ends of the screws protruding from the back of the hanger.
- 4). Fasten the saddlebag hanger to the fender by screwing the cap screws in its upper two holes into the fender. They fit into the fender where you removed the support screws in Step 1. A Torx screwdriver is required to tighten the cap screws down.
- 5). Place two button head screws with washers on them through the upper holes in the saddle bag. Make sure to start on the inside of the saddlebag. These screws also require a Torx screwdriver.
- 6). Insert the screws coming out of the back of the saddlebag through the upper mounting holes in the saddlebag hanger, then tighten them down with nuts. Tighten the nuts with a ratchet.
- 7). Insert two button screws in the lower mounting holes in the saddlebag, making sure they pass through the lower mounting holes in the saddlebag hanger. Tighten them into place with nuts. Tighten the nuts with a ratchet.
- 8). Repeat the process on the other side.
