How to Build a Cat Resistant Chicken Roost
Why Build a Chicken Roost? I love scrambled eggs for breakfast.
Especially if the eggs come fresh from the hens and haven't spent weeks in the supermarket.
So I keep a few hens in the back yard to enjoy this pleasure.
Going out into the garden on a bright sunny morning I equally enjoy and would not miss it for anything in the world.
Breathing the fresh air and smelling the flowers gives me an appetite and starts off my day on a beautiful note.
Alas my chickens have one problem - they taste too good.
The fox being more of a night creature cannot get at them as they are locked up in the chicken shed.
He does try some of the nights but he has not been successful and during the day he does not dare go near them.
But what has a chicken coop got to do with cats and why am I writing about a chicken coop kit in connection with cats? You may well ask.
I have not made a mistake.
You see some furry friends are small or are very docile felines but cats are predators and some of them are quite large.
Also almost all cats still have their natural instincts and love hunting.
Some cat breeds are more wild than others even if they are pets.
You would be surprised to know how your lovely, gentle, cuddly and innocent looking cat can turn into a ferocious tiger when out in the wild garden on its own, having spotted delicious live food.
In your home your lovely cat has learned to be soft and look helpless and lie on your lap.
It knows you feed it and spoil it.
But let it loose outside and its real nature will come out - the hidden "ferocious wild cat" inside the docile pet you know and love.
The cat is a predator and a carnivore and it does not distinguish between wild birds and chicken.
That's why I built a chicken roost, to protect my feathery friends from being chased around the yard and maybe suffering a heart attack from the stress and to stop my feline friends from being tempted to see my chicken as things to play with or as a meal.
The fun way of course is to build it yourself.
