Pinecone Art Projects
- Tie a piece of string or yarn in a loop and attach it to the pointed "stem" of the pine cone. You will use this to hang your bird feeder from a branch. Coat the pine cone with peanut butter by spreading it on with your fingers or with a knife. Make sure to get the peanut butter all over the various layers of the pine cone, and even spread some deeper into the pine cone. Roll the peanut-butter-covered pine cone in bird seed. Tie the bird feeder to a tree branch and watch the birds flock to it.
- Select your favorite essential oil and combine several drops of it with water in a spray bottle. Spray the pine cones thoroughly with the scented mixture, then seal them up in a plastic bag for 24 hours. If you would like the pine cones to have a stronger scent, place the pine cones in a large plastic bag and sprinkle in about 10 to 25 drops of essential oil. Gently shake the bag to coat the pine cones, then seal them in the plastic bag for 24 hours to soak up the scent. Place the pine cones in a bowl on a table, or put them in the fireplace to allow the scent to permeate the room.
- Lay several pine cones out on newspaper outside. Coat the surface of the cones with your choice of spray paint. You may choose any color, but metallic gold and silver are some of the most popular. Allow the cones to dry, then use a hot glue gun to place a spot of glue on the base of the pine cone. Affix a string to the glue to use as an ornament hanger. You may also choose to attach a bow made from ribbon to the top of the pine cone to add a little decoration.
- Turn the pine cone on its side and attach two googly eyes to the smaller, pointed end of the pine cone. Cut a small triangle out of yellow felt and attach it to the point of the pine cone as a beak for the turkey. Poke colored craft feathers into the openings on the pine cone near the wide end to create the turkey's tail. Cut feet out of orange felt or construction paper and glue them to the bottom of the pine cone to make a base for the turkey to stand.
