Playing golf is often one of the most enjoyable pastimes, one of which millions of people around the country choose to do to some capacity. Some people choose to play actively every week with a group of regular players that enjoy the game they play. Other people choose to play golf on the off chance with a group of friends or when the opportunity arises through work, which can be quite common in an executive role. Even further down the spectrum some people play golf when the opportunity arises with a crazy golf course for example. This is of course very popular with young families and groups of friends in a casual situation.

When you find you are actively getting into golf, you can find it is one of the most challenging and often frustrating sports which can take years of practice to perfect and become efficient at. This practice is vitally important, if you spend all your time on the course and no time on the range, it can be difficult to find new methods and techniques that could improve your game. These techniques can eventually shave a few points of your handicap score with rigorous practice. One area practiced very little by amateur players would be putting, this is of course down to the fact you have to do a lot of chasing and isn't half as exhilarating as knocking balls with a driver down the range.

This area is however key and is often the difference between a good game and an average game you play. You want to always be challenging for the hole with your first putt and finishing off with your second, which is an ideal scenario that doesn't always occur. To help improve your putting, one of the most important aspects is judging length, if you are getting the length right to the nearest yard, you will always be challenging. Practice this on a practice green by placing two clubs parallel to each other with a yard between and aim to land the ball in the square each time. This is a great way to judge length from a distance and get the feel for the green, referring back to this mental picture can help you judge more efficiently on the course. This is just one of a number of ways to improve your handicap, perfect all areas of your game equally to ensure a natural progression in decreasing your handicap score.
