How to Add Distance to Your Drive

10
    • 1). Strengthen your grip on the golf club. Although it's a simple adjustment, tightening your grip can increase both power and accuracy on your swing. To get the most power in your drive, hold your club with a very strong grip with both hands.

    • 2). Slow down your swing. While this may seem counterintuitive, slowing down your swing speed just a little bit can actually help you add distance to your drive. Slow things down a bit during the take-away and follow-through. By slowing down your swing, you can increase your accuracy and add distance to your drive. In general, your swing speed should be just under 100 mph.

    • 3). Open up your stance. Opening up your hips and your stance slightly will make your more stable, thus adding power to your swing. Using a wider stance will add a greater degree of power to your coil.

    • 4). Loosen your hands and wrists. Having tough, tight hands and wrists will slow down your movement and make your swing more difficult. Soft, tension-free hands and wrists are essential for achieving longer drives.
