Is Test Taking Anxiety getting you all stressed out? Read on for a few highly effective solutions.
Test taking anxiety has usually several sources: Sure, there's anxiety about the test itself.
In addition, time pressure is part of what causes anxiety - after all, most tests are timed, and if you blank out you loose time too, which will only increase your stress, and that makes it even harder to function.
The other thing is that it's next to impossible to retrieve what information is in one's brain when the stress hormones have taken over.
So you need to get past that anxiety and stress so you can function.
But how? It sounds like a catch-22, doesn't it? Well...
you do have some options: You could do some basic breathing and other stress management techniques, including aromatherapy and even calming herbs.
Just don't overdo the herbs, or else you'll be too relaxed to care about the outcome.
Or you could try EFT, also known as emotional freedom technique.
It's a bit like acupuncture, except that it works with tapping instead of needles.
And it's extremely effective for test taking anxiety.
Or you could try hypnosis.
Hypnosis promises to calm you down and make test taking anxiety a thing of the past.
The problem is you'll need a hypnotist.
Either that, or some really good audio tapes.
Ultimately, I think those tools work great in combination.
Hypnosis can be very effective and help you a great deal with studying as well as with staying calmer during the test.
But personally, I think it never hurts to have a few extra tools you can use quickly DURING the test - hypnosis might not be quite practical in that setting.
You can't just tell the professor you'll need to listen to your hypnosis audio for a few minutes...
Instead, having a back-up can be helpful because it reassures you that you'll be covered if the need should arise.
And EFT fits the bill as a perfect method you can use anytime and anyplace, and it doesn't have to take more than just a minute or two.
So this is the deal: Find tools that help calm you, so you can study effectively and later, during the test, retrieve what information is in your brain.
One more thing...
Make sure you get enough sleep.
In fact, schedule a few short naps between sessions of studying, or go for walks etc.
It helps make the info stick better.
Really! The best thing is that if you keep doing these things, test taking anxiety will soon be a thing of the past.
